Where has Sam (Nick Latimer) been hiding? After Nick's performance is Everything that Rises, I expect we will be seeing more of him on the big screen.
A powerhouse of emotion behind quiet, contemplative eyes- Latimer masterfully crafts his performance. The whole wide world is happening around him and we see every nuance, every thought, every regret, decision, worry, heartbreak, fear, hope- all through his eyes, his presence.
Written and directed by Jon Curtis and Dillon Norton, this film is an impeccable example of what the short film format was meant for. The slow reveals, the building tension, the discovery- we see it all on Latimer's face. Everything that has happened to this man, everything that could happen- he wears it on his sleeve. And not a single word spoken.
Powerful. Haunting. Poignant. This film and this actor will stay with the viewer for a long time. Bravo to Latimer. Bravo to the filmmakers, Curtis and Norton.

Nick Latimer won Best Actor for his work on "Everything That Rises" at the 11th annual Top Shorts 2025.
